Abstract:
We combine Raman spectroscopy and Photonic Force Microscopy to get time- and spatial resolved information on biochemical and biophysical processes in single living cells and long molecules. Our work ranges from simpler systems such as red blood cells and DNA to those that are more complex such as brain tumor cells. To enhance the Raman efficiency to the same level as fluorescence we use optically trappable SERS probes that are produced by attaching silver colloids to the surfaces of micron sized dielectric spheres. The SERS probes are used to provide fast Raman imaging of cells and the injection of these probes in to cell systems allows for monitoring of drug diffusion.
