ICFO offers, together with the UPC-Technical University of Catalonia , a focused PhD program in Photonics that targets the most advanced topics in optical sciences and technologies. Students in this program have access to cutting-edge experimental research infrastructures and to specialized courses and seminars. Entrepreneurship and commercialization techniques are also an integral part of the curricula.
To apply for admission to the PhD in Photonics, candidates must hold an official MSc degree or minimum of 300 ECTS credits in prior studies that lead to the obtainment of a Master's degree or equivalent. Students who do not hold a Master equivalent degree may register, e.g., in the Master in Photonics during their first year.
In general the program is designed to take less than four years to complete. The admitted Phd students will be working under the supervision and advice of an ICFO group leader for the development of a research project leading to writing its doctoral dissertation. The PhD program in Photonics' plan of studies includes a special educational package named ICFO+, which offers unique opportunities in the area of professional and personal development.
