ICFO - Caixa Catalunya Summer Fellows

Every year, over the summer period, Caixa Catalunya Obra Social and ICFO team up to offer a limited number of summer research fellowships to carry out a research project on a variety of topics in Photonic Sciences at ICFO. The program aims at outstanding undergraduate students within the last two years of their Master-equivalent or Engineering degree studies. Eligible areas include Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.

The ICFO - Caixa Catalunya Summer Fellows are hosted and coached by the different ICFO research groups. While being exposed to cutting-edge science projects within a host research group, the ICFO - Caixa Catalunya Summer Fellows may engage in a training program which also offers opportunities in the area of professional and personal development.

The Summer Program covers the basics and applications of different ongoing research topics at ICFO. It consists of lectures by group leaders, post-doctoral researchers and distinguished guest speakers in a broad range of areas, guided visits through ICFO labs, and selected team building activities aimed at helping Summer Fellows become part of the ICFO community and enhancing their networking abilities. The relevant call is published in the Job Openings page during the previous winter.

E2C3 at ICFO

With the purpose of promoting science among motivated and entrepreneurial high school students, Caixa Catalunya Obra Social, in cooperation with the Generalitat de Catalunya, runs the 'Joves i Ciència' Program, part of which are the E2C3s, a series of summer science workshops. The summer workshops are hosted at unique local resorts, and comprise active contributions by several prestigious national and international researchers. The program is aimed at outstanding high school students who wish to be part of a unique scientific experience. True to its mission in nurturing young local talent, ICFO participates in the program. In particular, ICFO hosts brief stays by E2C3 fellows and engages them on demonstrations on the wonders of light, allowing them at the same time to experience first hand the daily life of a scientist working at the very frontier of science.
