The discovery of flat-bands in magic angle graphene has introduced a whole new concept - twistronics - which allows to induce strong correlations effects, anomalous superconductivity, magnetism and topology. The creation of this entirely novel field offers entirely new possibilities and levels of control to induce and manipulate quantum many-body states. Not only has it far reaching implications in the fundamental understanding of these exotic phases, but it also has the potential to revolutionize applications in the fields of quantum metrology and sensing.

ICFO leads research in twistronics at many levels. First of all, Dima Efetov’s group works on bi-layered graphene in condensed ,matter context. Lluis Torner group studies Moiré patterns in photonics. Finally, Maciek Lewenstein’s group, collaborating with Leticia Tarruell, studies possibilities of twistronics without twist using ultracold atoms in synthetic dimensions. All these three lines of research will be shortly sketched and recent achievements will be quoted.
