Quantum Information beyond Quantum Information

Understanding thermodynamic processes at the quantum scale

The main goal of this project is to search for applications of quantum information concepts and techniques beyond quantum information theory.

It is now clear that quantum information theory has changed the way we understand quantum physics, so we expect this new insight is potentially useful in any research field dealing with quantum effects. Expected outcomes are:

(i) understand thermodynamic processes in the quantum regime, from small quantum systems composed of few particles, to big quantum systems in the thermodynamic limit

(ii) application of quantum information ideas to foundations of quantum physics, such as the use of information principles to understand which correlations are possible within the quantum regime
(iii) methods for the characterisation of causality in the classical and quantum regime

(iv) study decoherence and open quantum systems
