Micro-nano-structured optical sensors for harsh environments and cell analysis

Description of Activities:

The aim of this activity is to design, fabricate and characterize new optical sensor devices which make use of micro-nano-structuring to improve their performance or add new functionalities. In particular we are developing photonic crystal and fibre Bragg grating based sensors for thermo-mechanical measurements up to 1000ºC, domain inverted lithium niobate waveguides for electric filed sensing in high voltage electrical energy transport lines, and low cost, low energy consumption, portable optical sensing devices based on advanced CCD detection for malaria, tuberculosis, water microorganisms, toxicity and cell screening in remote areas.
