New ICFOnians

Eight new ICFOnians joined the different ICFO research groups, units and facilities during the month of April. Welcome aboard!

May 07, 2019

One postdoctoral researcher, two PhD students, four students, and one business developer have joined ICFO during the month of April.

Adam Summers, who holds a 2018 PhD in Nanoscale and Optical Physics, is coming to ICFO as a postdoctoral researcher at the Attoscience and Ultrafast Optics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Jens Biegert. At ICFO he will be working on ultrafast condensed phase physics.

Nawaphat Malaiwong, who obtained an MSc in Anatomy & Structural Biology at Mahidol University, Thailand, is coming to ICFO to join the Neurophotonics and Mechanical Systems Biology research group led by ICFO Prof. Michael Krieg as a PhD student. His position will allow him to work on deciphering the role of toca-1 in mechanosensation and use mechanical measurements to estimate the influence of bar-domain proteins for membrane mechanics, using C. elegans as a model system.

Natalia Salvat holds a 2018 MSc in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from University of Barcelona is now joining the Single Molecule Biophotonics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Maria Garcia-Parajo as a PhD student. Her main tasks will involve working in the dynamics and lateral organisation of the integrin receptor LFA-1 expressed on monocytes.

Md Masudur Rahman, who is pursuing a Europhotonics MSc, is coming to ICFO to join the Quantum Optics Theory research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Maciej Lewenstein as a student.

Adrian Gomez is working towards an MSc in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Barcelona, and is now joining the SLN Facility team led by ICFO prof. Pablo Loza as a student.

Charitra Sree, who is studying an MSc in Optics and Photonics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, is coming to ICFO as a student at the SLN Facility team led by ICFO prof. Stefan Wieser. At ICFO she will be working on implementing structured illumination of single molecules below 1nm resolution in living cells.

Javier Arres, who is pursuing an MSc in Photonics from UPC, UAB, UB and ICFO, is coming to ICFO to join the Optoelectronics research group led by ICREA Prof. at ICFO Valerio Pruneri as a student. His position will allow him to work on optical surfaces for sensing.

Umut Karadeniz, who holds a 2019 MSc from Acıbadem University, Turkey, is coming back to ICFO as a business developer at the Medical Optics research group led by ICREA prof. at ICFO Turgut Durduran. At ICFO he will be working as DODs project business developer.
