2018 BIST Ignite Awards
ICFO will participate in two multidisciplinary research projects funded through the 2018 Ignite Awards.

The BIST Ignite Program launched in 2016 and now in its third edition, has awarded five projects from within the BIST Community for their multidisciplinarity and high level of scientific excellence. The winners will have eight months to develop their projects, at which point they will be eligible to apply for second round of funding.
The goals of the BIST Ignite Program are to promote the initiation of new collaborations among the BIST researchers, facilitating the exchange of knowledge among different scientific fields and exploring new approaches to address complex questions. The projects must be aimed at exploring new questions and technological challenges through novel multidisciplinary approaches, exchanging knowledge across disciplines, exposing researchers to multidisciplinary environments, and providing new insights to push the collaboration further.
The winners are:
BIOSPAD (“A fast monolithic multi-channel ASIC for diffuse optical, non-invasive blood flow measurement”), led by Sebastian Grinstein of IFAE and Turgut Durduran of ICFO.
MOFtors (“nzyme-powered, metal-organic framework based motors”), led Vincent Guillerm of ICN2 and Tania Patiño Padial of IBEC.
ElectroSensBioBots (“Towards a new generation of programable 3D printed living biobots with nanoelectronics for sensing and local stimulation”), led by Maria Guix Noguera of IBEC and Steven Walston of ICN2.
ORGANSENS (“Dynamic monitoring of pancreas metabolism by combining nano-optical biosensing to organ on-a-chip technology”), led by Romain Quidant of ICFO and Javier Ramon of IBEC.
BioVac (“Artificial bacteria: a novel generation of bioinspired vaccines”), led by Daniel Ruiz-Molina,of ICN2 and Eduard Torrents Serra of IBEC.
