BIYSC and YPC participant wins 4th prize in Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair and a spot in the Forbes 2021 list

December 30, 2021

ICFO organizes and participates in a wide range of activities that aim to support and inspire the next generation of scientists. Carla Caro, who now studies Physics at the Universitat de Barcelona, participated in two such events.  She presented an outstanding research project on quantum annealing in ICFO’s 2021 Young Photonics Congress (YPC), a unique event that allows pre-University students to live the experience of a scientific conference in which they can explain their research projects to other students and also to ICFO researchers. In the 2020 YPC edition, she presented another project about the double slit experiment. In 2019, she also passed through ICFO as a participant in the Barcelona International Youth Science Challenge, a summer science program organized by Fundació Catalunya- La Pedrera in collaboration with international research centers around Catalonia, targeting young scientists, 16-18 years old, from around the world, with the aim of stimulating scientific talent among high school students, encouraging their enthusiasm to pursue scientific research and careers in science.

ICFO congratulates Carla for winning fourth place in the 2021 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair, the most significant international competition for young scientists, for the project she also presented at the YPC. This award also has earned her a spot on the Forbes 2021 list of top awarded Spaniards. We will be watching with interest as she embarks on her promising academic career
