Optical nanoantennas

An article for the general public on Optical Nanoantennas by Prof. Romain Quidant appears in the last issue of Investigación y Ciencia. The quest for overcoming the diffraction limit by means of Optical Nanoantennas is the subject of an article published by Prof. Romain Quidant in the Spanish popular science magazine Investigación y Ciencia.

The article explains that nanoantennas can be seen as a miniaturization of traditional radio antennas, and how they can be used to overcome the diffraction limit by generating ultrasmall spots of light. After describing the plasmonic resonance phenomenon, the text shows how nanoantennas can be used as precise tweezers to hold delicate objects like living bacteria.
